Are Positive Splits Good?

Re: Proper Nutrition for a vegetarian
Hi, Nadine:

Another question for you. How do I alternate GU gels(since they must be taken with water) and Powerade? Since both are being used, I am trying to figure out not doing too much of one thing or combination. Lets say I normally just hydrate with water whenever I feel thirsty running, but after about 90mins, do I then use Powerade or would I use GU? Just confused on what to bring for my runs and when to use what. Hope that made sense. They will start to increase considerably after next week so I want to start preparing. Thanks!! Dawn

Wall!? What wall?

Re: Proper Nutrition for a vegetarian
hmmm. I mostly take the gu's with water. In training I usually start taking them at 8 and 16 miles, in the marathon I start sometimes a bit earlier at 6 or 7 and then every 6ish or so miles. I make sure I drink enough water, but not too much. I also always carry a bottle of water with me when I train for longer runs, even in the colder weather it's weather I feel that it's nice to have it. The gatorade/powerade I always just take after the run is over or maybe a sip or two once in between. I think there are a lot of things that people do, but I would think you should probably just try what works best on your training long runs. You will get a feeling of what you can do that way. I am sure you will do fine.

Which race are you running again?

Where's the Start Line?

Re: Proper Nutrition for a vegetarian
Dawn,
How has your nutrition been since posting this? I'm also a veg, and I find that a serving of oatmeal a couple of hours before my run & a piece of fruit right before (I too like bananas) works well.
